The Passion of Dolssa Book Review

The Passion of Dolssa - Julie Berry

This pleasantly surprised me. I don't read a whole lot of historical fiction, and now I feel like I should because I really, really enjoyed this. The Passion of Dolssa is a fast paced moving novel. It kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish -- even though its fairly long. And the writing is gorgeous. After trying to read The Star Touched Queen, I really appreciated the distance and research Julie Berry took into this.

It's France, 1241 and Dolssa has committed a sin and is on the run from the Friar and Tolassa. She know's if they find her they will burn her alive for her disagreements. On the run she meets Boltille and her family. A family that decides to take her in and hide her even though they know it might cost them their lives as well as their entire town.

Dolssa is an interestingly enough character, but I really liked reading about Bolitlle and her family -- they are really the main characters here. The lengths they go to protect and hide Dolssa and what nearly happens to their family in the end.

I will definitely be reading other books by this author and have already put All the Truth That's In Me and have very high expectations.
