Racing in the Rain Book Review

The Art of Racing in the Rain - Garth Stein

I actually read Racing in the Rain, a children's adaption of this book. I'm not sure if there is a big difference - other than appropriateness of language. I may read the adult version to find out.

Because, wow. What an emotional, heartbreaking book. Maybe the most heartbreaking one I've ever read. And its all told in a dog's perspective. Absolutely brilliant. I wish I could think of something this creative.

Enzo is a dog. He knows he's a dog and he knows what his job is. He's to take care of his owner's daughter, Zoe. His owner Denny loves cars and racing cars. But when his wife dies everything changes. A lawsuit against him to take his daughter away. Enzo enfolds the story before him.

We do have a dog in my family who we love dearly. We've had dogs who have passed away as well. And this really makes you wonder what a dog is thinking. Though, I'm not sure its as complex as this story. It sure does make you hope they know what you're saying and that they understand what you're going through.

Garth Stein has created something profound, deep and magical with Racing in the Rain. Taking me nearly three hours to complete, this is definitely a new favorite book of mine and on that I will be recommending to readers looking for something new. And whats even better, I can recommend it to both young and old with it having two versions!
