The Madman's Daughter Book Review

The Madman's Daughter - Megan Shepherd

I don't really know what to say about this book other than the fact that its one of the most bizarre young adult books I've read this year. A strange island, odd beasts and mixed up characters that might interest some people but not quite my taste.

Gretchen thought her father was dead for many years. But when she runs into her families old servant, Montgomery she learns her father is really on a isolated island running his usual mad science experiments. After certain events she feels as though she must go to the island to see her father for the first time in many years.

Like I said, bizarre. And there's a sequel. Which I really don't know what more they can do with this book and these characters, so I probably won't be reading the next one. There is a bit of a love triangle which I wasn't really invested in. In fact, I found all of the characters somewhat dull.

I suppose this Gothic tale may interest some people. While I'm glad I tried the genre I'm not sure its for me. It might be more enjoyable for someone who has read H.G Well's classic, The Island of Dr. Moreau.
