Since You've Been Gone Book Review

Since You've Been Gone - Morgan Matson

I'm feeling so conflicted about Since You've Been Gone. While I really enjoyed at some points, especially towards the end, I completely hated most of the beginning. The character is clingy, obnoxious and rambles way too much for my liking. In short, I think a big part of why I didn't like this as much as others is that I might be too old for this teenage coming of age novel.

Without warning or any notice, Emily's best friend Sloan is gone. Her family has disappeared and her house is empty for the summer. All that's left is a list of things that Sloan has left for Emily to complete. With the help of new friends Emily tried to conquer her fears and figure out what exactly happened to Sloan.

Like I said, Emily comes off to me as very obnoxious and somewhat naive. She's incredibly young and way too clingy to people. Half of this book felt like her rambling on about what others might be thinking of her. While she does have character development I very much wanted to give her a slap on the face.

I know a lot of people like this author and will most likely enjoy this book. But for me its not a favorite.

Audiobook: Disliked very much in the beginning but probably because she pulls off that obnoxious voice of a teenaged girl a little to well. It did grow on me much like that of the plot and actual book.
