Brown Girl Dreaming - Jacqueline Woodson

About what I expected. Deserving of an award but not my favorite book out there. I've never been a fan of poetry books. But it did seem to work in this one.

Jacqueline Woodson, a well acclaimed children's author tells her life of growing up in the 60's and 70's. Of what it was like to live with racism and being the only black child in a classroom. Living between North Carolina and New York Woodson never really felt like she had a home. brown girl dreaming tells her thoughts and families memories of what it was like to live through this rough decade.

As I write this on Martin Luther King day, its hard not to appreciate this book. Especially with the events that have been occurring as of late. I'm glad this book exists because there needs to be more of them, especially in juvenile literature. So for that, I thank you Woodson.
