Moon over Manifest

Moon Over Manifest - Clare Vanderpool

Another Newberry down. Well worthy of the award too. I think this might be my favorite one so far, even if it felt a little long. It's interesting to see that most of the winner's are historical fiction, which I don't read a whole lot of. But, I'm enjoying them and looking forward to reading more of them.

Abilene Tucker has been put on a train by her father and sent to a little town called Manifest. The town isn't what she expected but she does hope to learn about her father's childhood through newspapers and old letters. History enfolds and secrets arise when Abilene starts digging.

A well thought out story with obvious research done. Definitely something to recommend to higher level readers as I feel like struggling elementary aged students would have trouble putting this one together.
