The Higher Power of Lucky Book Review

The Higher Power of Lucky - Susan Patron

A super quick audio book with only three discs. I'm honestly surprised this one a Newberry as I found the book more annoying than anything. It's certainly interesting making my way through all the award winning books each year. This is probably going to be one of my least favorites of them.

Lucky, ten years old is a ward living with her Aunt Beatrice. Her father left her, her mother died two years ago. She can't help but feel like no one cares about her. Living in a small town of 43 people Lucky finally decides she has to run away.

I hated Lucky. She acted more like a mopey teenager than a ten year old. Everything was set up against her, she felt like no one loved her but there really wasn't any reason why. The geography really didn't feel right to me. And there was little plot.

Not a terrible book, but really not deserving of a medal. Glad I listened to it because I'm not sure I would have finished it if I was reading it.
