The Duff Book Review

The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend - Kody Keplinger

"Wesley Rush doesn't chase girls. Girls chase him."

Honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed this audio book. It's whitty, funny, and not something I normally read. Those a fan of contemporary novels will really love The Duff. Anyone who has felt left out, like the loser in the group will be able to relate to these characters and the plot of this book.

Bianca has been labeled The Duff (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) by none other than Wesley Rush, the egotistical man-whore of her class. The problem is, he won't go away. Between a confusing relationship with a boy she "hates" and a rocky home life, Bianca has to come to terms with being labeled THE DUFF.

I hated Bianca at first. She comes off hypocritical, obnoxious, loud and sometimes just plain rude. But, it didn't take too long to fall in love with her character as well with Wesley. It's a bit of a predictable book and fairly "preachy" but something that is needed in YA literature. Books to tell teens that its okay to be yourself,

A movie did just come out for this as well and I'm looking forward to watching it when it comes out on DVD. I've heard its completely different though.

Though I'll recommend this to teens, I'd say its for a mature audience as there is quite a bit of language and sex throughout the book.
