Saint Anything - Sarah Dessen

Sarah Dessen has always been a hit and miss author for me. Partly because I'm not that into contemporary fiction with young adult. But, I really did love this one. The characters and the story line was heartbreaking. Unlike most of her other novels. It's one to easily connect to even if I did feel a little old for it at times.

Sydney has always felt invisible under her brother's glowing praise. But when Peyton does the unthinkable and gets sent to jail that feeling only strengthens. She then meets Layla, Mac and their friends, finally finding a place to fit in. If only her parents cared and paid attention as much as she did.

At times Sydney does seem like an attention seeking, obnoxious teenager but for the most part I thought her reactions were reasonable. Her mother never seems to care or ask how she's feeling and lets creepy Ames into their house. Her father just sits back and lets everything happen.

Dessen fans will certainly be happy with her latest book. She yet again proves why contemporary and heartfelt characters are a necessity in young adult literature.
