Go Set a Watchman Book Review

Go Set a Watchman - Harper Lee

Ah, the controversy surrounding Go Set a Watchman. It's been interesting to read over the past few weeks what everyone has been thinking about this book. I can absolutely see why people are unhappy about it. There is a huge change in certain characters, deaths we didn't want, the writing isn't as great as TKAMB. That being said, I liked it more than not. I loved seeing Jean Louise (Scout) and Jem in high school. I missed Dill. I wasn't thrilled with Atticus but can't say I'm shocked...

Jean Louise is coming back to Maycomb, Alabama after having been in NYC for the past years. Her father is ill and she feels that everyone has left her. All while remembering the past years with Jem and Hank who still wants to marry her.

The biggest difference between Go Set a Watchman and TKAMB is the target age. GSAW is definitely NOT a children's book. While it still has the humor from the first one there are some adult themes that make it a bit inappropriate for younger children.

I was pleased to see Jem and Jean Louise in the past flashbacks. Enjoyable and funny.

A book that has a lot of hype now, but I don't think it will be the classic that TKAMB is.
