More Than This Book Review

More Than This - Patrick Ness

I am definitely a Patrick Ness fangirl, but color me disappointed with More Than This. I did love it in the beginning. But it fell flat half way through. The dystopian/sci-fi aspect of this story didn't really work for me. In fact, I liked the flashbacks much more and would have loved if this was a coming of age, contemporary novel about two boys falling in love more than anything.

He wakes up in his old house, in London, not America. No one is there. Its the place where everything bad happened with his brother. Seth can't help but think he's in hell. Everything is dusty, old, and the place is abandoned. Its up to him to figure out exactly what is going on.

Like I said, I liked the flashbacks much more than the Dystopian set up. I loved the scenes between Goodmund and Seth. Its nice seeing this type of relationship in YA literature. I also can't help but compare this to Chaos Walking and A Monsters Called. I LOVED both of those and this one just doesn't live up to the standards those did, for me at least.
