Ugh. I was so frustrated with Carry On and I loved Fagirl. A lot of this made me roll my eyes and wonder what the heck Rainbow Rowell was thinking. It is wayyyy to similar to Harry Potter for my liking (I know, I know that's where her characters are inspired from). It was just too much for me.
Simon Snow is off to his last year of school. But when Baz doesn't show up he's constantly worried that Baz is around the corner getting ready to attack him. Or is that all he's concerned about? His best friends say he complains about Baz too much. Maybe there's something more there than the fact the two are meant to kill one another.
I was bored by a lot of this. Most of the book is Simon going on and on about how he wonders where Baz is or how much he hates Baz. And that's worse when you're listening to the audio book. I had trouble sometime figuring out the difference between the Baz and Simon characters because they are so similar. I don't know if actually sitting down and reading it would make that easier.
The spells were terrible. I absolutely hated how Rowell created her spells and magic. It came off silly and obnoxious to me. And totally threw me off this book a lot. Maybe I'm thinking too much about it, but a big no for me.
In the sense that this is a book based off of another character in Fangirl a lot of things didn't really make sense to me. I though the pop culture references should not haven been in there.
I dunno, I like Fanfiction and all. I even liked the romance between the two characters - we didn't get a whole lot of it though. Sorry Rowell, I'll stick to Fangirl and forget Carry On never happened.
