The Midwife's Apprentice is a very short and quick read, yet boring and fairly repetitive. I can't say I really enjoyed anything about this Newberry award winning book and I really find it hard to believe this is the best book in 1995.
A young girl only remember's ever living on the streets, steeling from villages and fending for her own. But then she finds her self the apprentice to Jane the midwife. She soon learns new skills and see's things she never thought she would see.
I can't say reading about a young girl helping pregnant woman is my thing to read about. Sure they existed and worked hard but is this really something a child would want to read about? I think not.
