Exit Pursued By a Bear Book Review

Exit, Pursued by a Bear - E.K. Johnston

There is a lot of hype surrounding this book. And, I know I am of the unpopular opinion when I say I didn't love it. I definitely didn't hate it. But there was a bit of a disconnect for me with this story.

Hermione Winters is just a normal high school girl. On the cheer-leading team, a wonderful boyfriend and a best friend she loves more than anything. But one night changes everything, someone roofies her drink and she wakes up not remembering anything but soon finds out she was raped.

I get it, people react differently to being in this situation. But, I felt a major disconnect from Hermione and what happened to her. She acted like nothing happened at all. And the fact that her rapist was still out there the entire book seemed majorly skipped over.

I did like Polly, her best friend. Everyone should have a best friend as supportive and understanding as Polly. But the rest of the book just isn't for me. I think it's important to read about. I just did not like the exactly how things were handled in the story. This is definitely one of those books that isn't for everyone.

And again, as I have compared other books dealing with this topic, Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is by far the one to read.
