I liked this a lot more than not. It sends an overall good message to teen girls. The characters are funny and quirky and very relatable. I'm not fat, not at all and I still found myself relating to the messages in the story.
Willowdean is fat and not afraid to admit it. Her mom, however, the runner of the local beauty pageant just wishes Willow would take care of herself more. Willowdean has always felt positive about her body, her friends and life. Then Bo and Mitch appear in her life and she starts to wonder if she can be fat and pretty at the same time. What does she do? Take part in her mother's beauty pageant.
I did like Willowdean and thought she way portrayed well. My biggest issue with this book is the fact that it does have that underlying message that we are telling young girls that being fat is totally okay. I'm much more of the opinion that we should be taking care of ourselves and should be eating healthy.
Other than that, its nice to see a book that has positive messages for teens (also, it made me roll my eyes a bit that this had the stereotypical hot guy going after the nerdy girl).
