This is probably my most anticipated read of the year after loving Illuminae so much last year. Its good, and it lived up to my expectations but I can't say I liked it as MUCH as the first.
Gemina picks up with a new battle on a new ship. This time on station Heimdall. We see two new characters, Hanna, the daughter of the captain, and Nik, part of a family of scoundrels and thieves. The two work together when alien predators come aboard. Fate rests in their hands, including the Hypatia.
I think the biggest downfall for me for this one is that the cool concept and images lost its feeling of originality. I found myself not liking the format as much this time around. In fact, I didn't really start enjoying it until old characters returned.
The bad guys aren't quite as terrifying. And there's some plot twists that are almost too out there.
But, I read it in one sitting and despite the negatives, really really enjoyed the entire thing. It'll be interesting to see how it all ends. I'm hoping, for the next one, we get to keep the same characters instead of adding a pair of new ones.
