The Fairest of Them All: A Novel

The Fairest of Them All: A Novel - Carolyn Turgeon A rather dark and twisted version of Rapunzel. I find it somewhat bizarre that this is shelved sometimes as a romance, where as I definitely consider it a fantasy (though as in all fantasy's, romance plays a part).

Rapunzel was taken at a young age from her mother and father by the witch, Mathena. Who claims they were evil parents and didn't love her. The two of them live in the forest until Josef, the soon to be king shows up. The two fall in love and the story grows. Is Mathena to be trusted? Will Rapunzel stay true to herself and her step daughter Snow White?

I found this interesting enough but felt that it was rushed. I'm never a fan of stories where characters fall in love and sleep together within the first chapter. Those older fans who enjoy the T.V. show, Once Upon a Time, might like this rendition of Rapunzel, beware though, its a fairly dark fantasy.

Side Note: The only reason I read this book was because I randomly met the author at a book signing. Though its not my favorite, I'm certainly glad I discovered it!
