A fun, fast paced read with a lot of Dystopian action. Callie, a sixteen year old is living on the streets with her friend, Michael, while taking care of her younger, sickly brother, Tyler. Their parents died during the war years ago and with no grandparents these kids are left to fend for themselves.
Since they desperately need help and money Callie turns herself in the the blood bank. A program where elders can "rent" a teens body for certain periods of time. Just imagine having your body being used by someone who is hundreds of years old and have no control? Creepy. Naturally things go a little wrong for Callie and thus the action paced plot.
The plot is interesting enough but there are too many things that bothered me. We never learn why there was a war in the first place. What were people fighting about or how did it start? Callie meets a boy and instantly they feel as though they're in love, that bothered me a lot. We never get to know the characters or how they came to where they are now. In fact, we don't even know what year the book takes place in (something I feel is always an important plot in Dystopians.)
A good idea, and a fun read, but many flaws and questions leaving the book feeling dull and disappointing.
