Tina's Mouth Book Review

Tina's Mouth: An Existential Comic Diary - Keshni Kashyap, Mari Araki

One of my goal's for next year is going to be to read more graphic novels. I thought I would start early with this one. Plus the cover drew me in. Though, I have to say this was a bizarre story with little plot line. It might be difficult for me to get into the graphic novel genre but we shall see. Especially since summer reading, 2015 is super hero's.

Tina, a young 15 year old Indian shares her life and secrets in her existential diary. Who she has a crush on, how her school works, what her family is like, and why she's an existentialist.

I found myself not really getting "into" Tina. I think this is one of those cases where I'm much too old for this book and character. I didn't care about her crush on Neil or that her high school is just like every high school out there and split into groups like cheerleaders and freaks and preps. Nothing new there.

The pictures were fun to look at and creatively drawn. But I found it a little hard to read certain pages because there was so much writing everywhere. I didn't like having to turn the book in circles just to read a sentence.

So, like I said, we'll see if I enjoy graphic novels. This one wasn't really a good start for me.
